Flat Cut (Plain Sawn)

Unlike quarter cut hardwood, most hardwood floors are made of wood that is cut along the wood grain called flat cut. This method allows for more economical floor production, minimizing waste. A flat cut is allowing for the board surface to be distressed (wire brushed or hand scraped) due to a combination of softer and harder wood grain in the wood structure.

Different cuts of wood—plain, quarter sawn, rift, and live.
